Farmland Center seeking new staff

The Countryside Conservancy Farmland Center Coordinator,

Amalie Lipstreu will now be working at the Ohio Department of Agriculture as the state's new program manager for sustainable agriculture.

The Conservancy is seeking a qualified and passionate indivudual to fill this newly vacated position.  Inquiries can be directed to

Increased market consolidation in beef industry threatens markets...and food inspection

Was the latest beef recall just a fluke?  Yet another merger is in process furthering the consolidation of the beef industry in the United States.  This will further effect not only prices paid to producers, the type of farming taking place but also may effect food inspection. The latest article by Alan Guebert from the March 20th issue of Farm & Dairy tackles this issue head on.

David W. Jones from the News-Herald reported last week about the release of the first ever repeat Cost of Community Service Study (COCS). Read the article here.

American Farmland Trust's COCS report "Finding a Balance" reinforced previous COCS studies showing that agricultural and open space lands are a strategic resource - not just environmentally and socially but also in helping communities maintain fiscal balance.
