About The Farmland Center...

Who we are

We work to "Foster Farmland Protection and Viability in the Western Reserve"

What we do:

Advocate for policy options that support farming and farmland protection

Engage the public and community leaders to support the multiple benefits of maintaining working farms

Assist communities that value farming and are working to retain and expand farming

Create resources to help farmers and communities

Programs and Services Offered:

  1. Technical Assistance for counties townships & farmland protection organizations.  To request a presentation or consultation to help your community plan for farmland protection Contact the Center here
  2. Publications - We provide a range of publications and issue briefs.  Visit our Publications page for available resources
  3. FarmLink Program is a new resource in the state.  This service connects new and diversifying farmers with available land.  See our FarmLink Page for more information.
  4. Farm Transition and Conservation Assistance.  As part of planning for the future of farming, it is important that farmers plan for the future of their farm whether or not they have children to take over the farm operation.  We are developing a clearinghouse of resources and professionals to advise farmers.
  5. Presentations- We are available to present information on a wide variety of topics ranging from the value and benefits of farmland protection to planning and zoning, creating farmland protection programs and more.  Contact us to schedule a presentation in your community.
  6. Readers Circles- A form of civic engagement, these readers circles are a dynamic way for people to connect to each other, to information, to farms and local food.

The Farmland Center is a program of the Countryside Conservancy

A small think-and-do tank working to re-envision and rebuild local-regional farming and food systems in Northeast Ohio – systems purposefully designed to reconnect food in the public’s mind to farming and land, to community and nature.

Other program work of the Conservancy includes:

A national model farm lease initiative that is rehabilitating farms in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and leasing them to Entrepreneurial Farmers.

FoodWorks Initiative- operating farmers markets in Akron & Peninsula , connecting farmers with restaurants & developing new ways to connect consumers with local food.

A new farmer initiative providing internship/mentoring opportunities for new farmers.
